From the Internet to your own private gateway

The Internet is brought to your building via a dedicated high-grade data circuit (typically one or more T1 lines). iNYC Wireless installs a minimal amount of intelligent equipment in the basement that becomes your local gateway to the Internet. This in-building equipment provides a variety of advantages, such as: firewall protection, a local web "cache" and local Domain Name Service (DNS). One example of how our technology distinguishes our service is the use of this local DNS. The DNS look-up translates a web address from the name as we know it, (e.g. "website.com,") to its numerical code used by the Internet. Doing this translation on the gateway, connected to you through a high-speed Local Area Network, allows your commands to be processed much more quickly than would otherwise be possible.

From the gateway in your basement, a data cable is run up a vertical conduit in your building. At each floor landing, iNYC Wireless installs a wireless transmitter that connects you to the Internet through a wireless network interface card (NIC) installed in your personal computer.

The result is an "always on", high-speed wireless Internet connection that gives you the freedom to work on-line from anywhere in your apartment. With your laptop, you can roam freely from the living room couch to the kitchen table. If you use a desktop computer, you will not be limited to a specific location in your apartment, making redecorating a breeze. If your property has common areas, such as a roof garden, meeting rooms or swimming pool, iNYC Wireless will be able to provide service over the wireless network to all these areas with the same access that you enjoy in your apartment.
